Dr. Lei Xia, MD, MA, BSc, FRCPC
Dr. Lei Xia is an assistant professor, staff anesthesiologist at the University of Saskatchewan (UofS) and Executive Director of Education for the Department of Anesthesiology in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Lei completed a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the UofS in 2008, MD at the UofS in 2012, Anesthesiology Residency at the UofS in 2017, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Clinical Investigator Program in 2019, and a Master of Arts in Health Leadership from Royal Roads University in 2019. Lei is a co-founder of AirwayBreathingCoffee. He is interested in health leadership, quality improvement, and medical education. Outside of medicine, Lei is a father of two girls and enjoys disc golf, cooking, and traveling.
Dr. Jordan Steeg MD, BSc, FRCPC
Dr. Jordon Steeg is twice an alumnus of the University of Saskatchewan, having finished his Honours BSc. in toxicology in 2012 and MD in 2016. He went on to finish anesthesiology residency at the University of Saskatchewan in 2021. He now works as a clinical associate professor in Saskatoon’s Department of Anesthesiology. Clinical interests include perioperative ketamine and medical student education. Outside of medicine Dr. Steeg keeps busy as a father of two young boys but finds time to enjoy playing music and being outdoors camping and gardening.
Dr. Alixe Pellerin, MD, RN, SCBScN, BSc
Dr. Alixe Pellerin was born and raised in Saskatoon, SK. Alixe completed a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Saskatchewan in 2011 and went on to become a Registered Nurse in 2015. Before entering medical school, she worked as an emergency room nurse. Alixe completed medical school at the University of Saskatchewan and is now a PGY-5 at the University of Saskatchewan Anesthesiology residency program. Alixe is a co-founder of AirwayBreathingCoffee. She is interested in medical education, simulation, and POCUS. Outside of the hospital Alixe enjoys walking her chocolate lab, going to hot-yoga with her co-residents, spending time at the lake with her husband and baking!
Dr. Alison Knapp, MD, BSc
Dr. Alison Knapp completed a bachelor of Health Science at the University of Ottawa before attending McMaster University for medical school. She is a new transplant to the prairies and is currently a PGY-5 at the University of Saskatchewan Anesthesiology residency program. Alison is one of the original content creators for AirwayBreathingCoffee. She is interested in medical education and simulation-based learning. Outside of the OR she enjoys running along the riverfront trails in Saskatoon and checking out local restaurants.
Dr. Christine Patterson, MD, FRCPC
Dr. Christine Patterson grew up in Calgary and attended medical school at the University of Alberta before completing her prairie tour by moving to Saskatoon for residency. Her interests include POCUS, critical care, and wellness in medicine. Outside the OR she can be found paddleboading, climbing, or cuddling her cat.
Muxue Li, BSc
Muxue grew up in Swift Current, SK and completed a Bachelor of Science Honours in Physiology & Pharmacology from the University of Saskatchewan. She stayed in Saskatchewan following her undergraduate degree and is now a PGY-1 in Regina for Anesthesia. Outside of school, Muxue enjoys playing soccer, tennis, painting and baking.
Ava Bayat, MSc, BSc
Ava earned her Honours BSc. in Physiology and Pharmacology in 2017 and an MSc. in Pharmacy in 2021 from the University of Saskatchewan. While pursuing her master’s degree, she worked as an administrative assistant at the USask Chronic Pain Clinic and developed an appreciation for the intricacies of pain management. Currently, Ava is in an incoming PGY-1 with the Saskatoon Anesthesia program, and her clinical interests include regional anesthesia and point-of-care ultrasound. In her free time, Ava enjoys walking her dog, Rue, laughing along to the Smartless podcast, and pretending she’s a master chef with her air fryer.
Olivia Woo, BSc
Olivia was born in Saskatoon and completed a degree in Anatomy and Cell Biology at the U of S before starting medicine. Currently, Olivia is an incoming PGY-1 with the Saskatoon Anesthesia program and has interests in both simulation and medical education. Outside of school, she has enjoyed teaching dance and playing football with the Saskatoons Valkyries and Team Canada flag football. Other hobbies include baking, downhill skiing and crocheting/knitting!
Azasma Tanvir, BSc
Azasma grew up in Lloydminster SK, and moved to Saskatoon to pursue a Bachelor of Science Honours in Physiology & Pharmacology from the University of Saskatchewan. She is now going into her 4th year as a medical student here in Saskatoon. After graduation she hopes to stay and continue her medical journey here in Sask! She recently fell in love with Anesthesia and has been immersing herself in learning more about the field. In her free time she enjoys playing chess and reading fantasy novels. She also likes going to the gym and loves to spend time with her baby cousins!
